Mississippi Harpist: Amanda Mangrum

Hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, Amanda Mangrum began studying harp in 2002.  In the same year she participated in Louisiana Harp Rally and received first place as well as the “Outstanding Musician” award.  In 2003, Mandy went to study with Shirley Jennings at Northwestern State University where she played with the NSU harp ensemble and performed for the Ceremony of Lights Gala in Natchitoches, Louisiana.  

Mandy completed her bachelor's in music performance at Louisiana State University where she played in several different groups including LSU Harp Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Symphonic Winds.  Also, during her time at LSU, Mandy was accepted to attend Sewanee Summer Music Festival where she studied with harpist, Marian Shaffer and became member of Pi Kappa Phi honors society.  

Mandy has recently earned her Master's degree in Music Performance with a concentration on harp and a minor in Music Education at the University of North Texas where she studied with Dr. Jaymee Haefner.  During her time at UNT Mandy performed with the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Harp Ensemble.  Mandy also spent a semester working with Dr. Kris Chesky researching Music Therapy and the use of the harp in music therapy.  She is also a member of  Pi Kappa Lamda National Music Honor society.

As a performer, Amanda has performed in Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Texas.  She has performed with Country Music superstar, Tim McGraw as well as perform for the First Lady of Texas, Anita Perry.  She has also performed for renowned harpists, Catrin Finch, Skaila Kanga, Carroll McLaughlin, and Ann Yeung.

Mandy is glad to be back home in Mississippi teaching private lessons, playing for weddings, receptions, parties, and other special events, and performing with the Mississippi Symphony.
